This year for A's birthday party, I wanted to something a little more special than last year. When he turned 3, his little brothers were 8 weeks old, and I felt like I rushed through the whole party planning process because I was short on time, and on sleep. I found a local Children's Museum to host his party: they took care of all the decor, favors and food, I designed and printed his invitations in one day and that was it. He loved it, but this year I wanted to do something at home, and spend some time thinking through a party that he and his little preschool buddies would love.

In the warmer months, A's favorite thing to do  (when he's not at the beach) is to make s'mores. Last summer and fall he'd ask as soon as he woke up if we could make s'mores after dinner, and most days we obliged, ecause who doesn't love s'mores?! I thought it'd be a fun party theme, especially if we were hosting at our house, and since his preschool buddies are now at an age where they could be around a fire pit (with parent supervision of course!).

For me, the invitation is really the first part of the concept, and everything kind of just flows from there. S'more and Four were the perfect rhyme, and a green gingham backer was the pattern I'd carry through the rest of the decor.

I spent some time brainstorming cute favors, inexpensive decor, and thinking of what we could repurpose from past parties. I love how all the details turned out, and most importably, A had the best time! He was so excited about "Camp Anthony", and that all of this was for him. When you're the older brother of 1-year-old twins, its a rare day that anything is just for him. I knew from the look on his face that he felt extra special, and loved the extra attention from everyone!

Hands down, my favorite piece of decor was the Camp Anthony sign. If you are a devoted reader of the blog, you'll know this was used at the Big Fake Wedding as my display board! I covered some wood in linen fabric, and make iron on transfers which I printed at home, and ironed onto the fabric! So easy, and SO inexpensive.

The cake toppers were my other favorite part of the party. I sent my sister-in-law an inspiration picture, and asked her if she thought we could pull off the toppers on our own with fondant and food coloring. Luckily she was game for a late night and messy project, and we were SO excited with the final result. If we lived closer, we'd consider perfecting our craft and doing it full-time.

And last but not least, all the little details! Grub and Sticky Fingers Stations, flash light favors, lantern, silly Trail Mix and Teddy Graham snacks, and of course, a S'mores station!

Something I've learned the last few years, is that planning in advance, and creating a party that you can actually sit back and enjoy, is priceless. Not being stressed, watching your kids jump around and have fun, and get chocolate cake everywhere... that's really the whole reason we plan in the first place, right? I may have been setting up until the very last minute, but once these pictures were taken, I was able to relax and have fun.

Happy Birthday Anthony, we love you!
