I'm so excited to finally share the pictures from James & Luca's Big Top Birthday!
When I started to think about celebrating James & Luca's first birthday, a circus party was the first that came to mind. We affectionately call our home "the circus show" - with three boys, 4 and under, there's a lot of messy and crazy going on behind the scenes. A circus party not only seemed like an appropriate theme, but was also the perfect platform to celebrate our boys - bright, fun, loud and full of personality. Since I was designing the paper goods myself, I let the invitation design guide the rest of the party and decor.
The popcorn barn and cotton candy favors were two of my favorite elements from the party! We were lucky that our venue happened to have a vintage popcorn machine, so with some popcorn boxes, fun toppings and lots of napkins, guests had a great time coming up with different flavor combinations. The cotton candy favors, from Sweet Puff Candy, were absolutely delicious, and fit the theme perfectly!
Last but not least, the little details! Personally, finding subtle ways to infuse the theme into each aspect of the party is best part of planning! We used animal crackers as toppers to the cupcakes, and as snacks on the guest tables. All signage was printed using the same theme as the invitation, and a monthly photo banner was hung from the fireplace showing J&L's monthly pictures. One of my absolute favorite parts of the party was the Dr. Seuss Guestbook that all of our guests signed. I can't wait to look through this in a few years with the twins, and read to them all the fun messages their family & friends left for them!
While I had so much fun planning this whole party, the absolute best part was that James & Luca were loved on by our friends and family, and that we were able to celebrate a big milestone in our boys' lives. I've said before that their first birthday was a much as a celebration for them as it was for us - as a new family of 5, this year was full of highs and lows, and learning how to be parents all over again. We wouldn't change it for anything, and can't wait to see what this year holds in store for our two little circus animals.
